In 2008, the FirstARTS series was established as an outreach to the Salisbury community and beyond. Now in its ninth season, FirstARTS has hosted musicians, ensembles and artists from across the United States, including organists Frederick Teardo and Jonathan Ryan, the Adaskin String Trio, New York sopranos Tami Petty and Mari-Yan Pringle, Thomas Bagwell, renowned collaborative pianist and Assistant Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, The Merling Trio, Giannini Brass, pianist Matthew Manwarren, baritone Markus Beam, the Ciompi String Quartet, and renowned church musician and composer, Richard Webster. The series also includes an annual Concert for Community Collaboration which raises awareness through a community-wide appeal for a local charitable organization. Previous concerts have benefited Glenn Kiser Hospice House, Food for Thought, Inc., Rowan Care Alliance (AIDS Care Service), Family Crisis Council, and Rowan County's One Church One Child. The annual event has collectively raised over $100,000 for these important causes. Through the faithful generosity of the First Church congregation, all concerts are free and open to the public.
