The worship of God reflects the heartbeat of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury. Everything that happens here - from fellowship time to outreach opportunities, from small group classes to caring for another - finds its source in worship. We gather together to be reminded of who we are and to whom we belong. We find a home in God's loving presence, and feel encouraged to love and serve God in the world!
Wesleyan liturgical theology is deeply concerned to define worship as more than public acts. Worship has to do with all of life, with relationships, and with vocations. In deed and thought Christian believers continually act out their relationship to Christ, both personally and corporately, in dialogue with God and one another. Christianity, as John Wesley describes it, is the method of worshipping God which has been revealed to us by Jesus Christ. Thus "worship," in the Wesleyan tradition, encompasses not only public rituals and private devotions, but the Christian life in all its fullness. Much like the early Church fathers, reformers, and even John Wesley, we too understand worship as a means of God's grace!
Come experience the joy of God's presence during one of our worship services. Our warm and energetic congregation wants to welcome you! The beauty of our church enhances the spiritual life of our congregation, setting the tone for our worship of God. When we gather for corporate worship on each Lord’s Day, we desire to present to the Lord our truest gifts: our worship; to give God not only the praise of our lips, but the surrender of our hearts.
Our Lord's Day liturgies follow the ancient fourfold pattern of worship: Entrance and Gathering, Proclamation of and Response to God’s Word, Thanksgiving and Communion, and Sending Forth. Our services intentionally incorporate intergenerational, multicultural, classical, and modern converging elements from a wide variety of Church history, including prayers, music, and biblically-based sermons, all of which seek to glorify God and nurture Christian discipleship with real-life application.
We regularly celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion in our worship services.
We believe that children are a gift from God and we encourage them to fully participate in our worship services! If needed, a staffed nursery is available for infants and children through age 4.
